Design Engineer, Poole, £50,000

Purpose of the role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will oversee the design, creation of BOMs (Bill of Materials), production processes, and provide technical support for a range of products.

As a Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the design process for various mechanical systems including tooling and bespoke machinery, ensuring adherence to specifications.
  • Creating detailed BOMs, development work, and value engineering activities on time.
  • Utilising Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering techniques to ensure a smooth transition from concept to production.
  • Producing layout, assembly, and detailed drawings from sketched ideas using 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks).
  • Conducting engineering calculations and selecting appropriate third-party components.
  • Ensuring all designs comply with relevant regulations, legislation, and customer-specific codes of practice.
  • Meeting KPI targets for efficiency, cost, and service quality, ensuring designs meet operational and regulatory standards.
  • Supporting other team members and departments as needed to ensure smooth project execution.

As a Design Engineer, you will have:

  • Proficiency in using 3D CAD design software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver detailed design backed by appropriate calculations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage time effectively under industry pressures.
  • A customer-focused, proactive, and methodical approach to tasks.
