Machine Shop Supervisor, Salisbury, £40’000pa

Purpose

As a Machine Shop Supervisor for this established engineering company, you will be a pivotal member of the company. You’ll have a 50/50 split between the shopfloor and office, between the shopfloor and office, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the machine shop as well as utilising your CNC skills in programming, setting, and operating machines. This role would be suited to a skilled machinist looking for the next step in their career.

Responsibilities

As a Machine Shop Supervisor your responsibilities will include:

  • Working both on the shopfloor and in the office (50/50 split)
  • Producing work schedules and arranging the day to day running of the machine shop
  • Being the first point of contact for any issues within the machine shop
  • Coordinating with other departments to determine best possible methods, practices and processes
  • Producing tooling and fixtures as required
  • Programming, setting and operating CNC machines
  • Assist with prototyping and development
  • Maintenance of the machinery and managing services for machines and equipment

Background

As a Machine Shop Supervisor, you’ll have:

  • Previous experience working within a machine shop programming, setting and operating CNC machinery
  • Ideally have some prior supervisory experience either within an established role or perhaps covering for a leader when necessary
  • Good communication, planning and organisational skills to manage the day to day running of the machine shop and operators
  • A consistent employment history with references available
  • Residence within sensible distance to our customers site as relocations won’t be considered

Responsibilities

As a Quality Inspector your responsibilities will include:

  • Visually inspect components and assemblies for obvious defects
  • Read technical drawings in both Metric and Imperial measurements
  • Use a variety of inspection tools including Verniers and Micrometres
  • Work with the production lines and assembly teams to rectify issues
  • Record and document findings for identification of reoccurring problems and trends
  • Carry out packaging and manufacturing inspections, sampling, and testing of incoming components and raw materials to ensure that company standards are met
  • Assist with drafting inspection procedures and validate or troubleshoot testing methods

As a Quality Inspector, you’ll have:

  • Either prior experience within quality inspection or a recent engineering qualification such as a BTEC or A-Level
  • A genuine passion about all things engineering
  • Ability to work in a very small team and a proactive attitude as this role involves working alone at times
  • Good communication skills to liaise with various departments within the business
  • Competency working with computers
  • A consistent employment history with references available
  • Residence within sensible distance to our customers’ site as relocations won’t be considered
